We’re a small business based in New York City. We’re looking for a makeup artist to intern for us this summer.
You’ll have the opportunity to work with our team of stylists and photographers, as well as clients who are coming in for photo shoots. You’ll create looks that will be used on the shoots and then worn by the models at events afterwards. You’ll also get to attend meetings with our clients and help them find the perfect look for their needs.
Most of all, you’ll gain valuable experience working in a fast-paced environment that values creativity and collaboration.

What Are Internship Opportunities for a Makeup Artist?
In a makeup artist internship, you are a student in a program that provides training to help you develop the skills necessary for a lifelong career. Your responsibilities are to learn to understand style and give each client an exceptional makeover. Internships exist for each type of makeup job you wish to pursue. Celebrity, theater, special FX, spa, and even funeral home makeup artist internships are open to students of the craft. Your duties vary by the type of work you do, but each internship revolves around the application and stylization of makeup. In most cases, you shadow a professional and work in groups on various projects.
How to Get an Internship as a Makeup Artist
If you want to start a makeup artist internship, you need to be a current student in a relevant program. There are beauty programs across the country that offer everything from a certificate to a master’s degree. Many artists begin with an associate of arts in cosmetology from their local community college. Marketing yourself is essential, as is finding a mentor. Other qualifications include an excellent grade point average, a passion for the industry, and an artistic eye. An understanding of color theory and palettes is essential as well. Interns and graduates can join a beauty association to further their career possibilities. In the meantime, consider attending as many cosmetology conventions as possible to gather ideas, network, and learn new skills.
