WHAT’S REQUIRED TO BE A DELTA FLIGHT ATTENDANT?

At minimum, applicants must have a high school degree or GED, the ability to work in the U.S., speak English fluently and be at least 21 years of age by Jan. 1, 2022. Before their training start date, all new hire flight attendants (including current Delta employees who have been accepted into the training program) must be fully vaccinated. Flight attendants must be willing to fly both international and domestic routes and be flexible because Delta flights operate day and night, year-round.

With a global network spanning more than 300 destinations, Delta is also seeking language of destination applicants who have fluency in English and one of the following languages: Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Czech, Danish, Japanese and Hebrew.

In order to become a flight attendant with Delta airlines, you’ll first have to meet the basic requirements of a flight attendant. Although some of the requirements are set by the FAA for all flight attendants, there are also some that are specific to Delta.

Delta Flight Attendant Salary

The pay for flight attendants at Delta is very competitive.

The starting range for a new flight attendant is in the range of $29/hour (according to Glassdoor) and $31 /hour according to Payscale. These are based on flight attendants who work there now reporting their income.

As you progress in your career, you can expect to earn quite a bit more. Experienced flight attendants with over 5 years of seniority can expect to make more than $38/hour.

Once you’ve hit the 10 year mark you can expect to make over $52/hour.

Bonuses, Commission, and Profit Sharing

Delta flight attendants also report that they also have the ability to earn money on top of their standard hourly pay.

There are several factors that go into this added pay including factors like the profitablity of the airline and your own performance. On average, the annual bonus for flight attendants is $900. The average profit sharing is $4,000 and the average annual commission payout is an additional $600.

Delta Flight Attendant Training Program

Delta is one of the airlines that offers paid training for new flight attendants. This is great since it means you can join the organization and not only save money by not having to pay for flight attendant training, you actually get paid to learn.

The pay for attending training is listed as $1822 per week. This also includes room and board if needed.

Delta Flight Attendant Schedule

The system for requesting flights to work at Delta (called a bidding system) is based on seniority. After you finish training and begin your career, you’ll likely have to take whatever shifts are available. This will include flights on weekend, evenings, and holidays.

There is not a set number of flights or hours you have to work, and you are free to pick up other shifts that are open. This includes flights that other flight attendants had assigned to them but for whatever reason no longer want.
