How To Become An Ob Gyn Sonographer

Question:

How do I become an OB/GYN sonographer?

Answer:

To become an Obstetrical and Gynecological (OB/GYN) sonographer, you first need to complete a formal training program in sonography. There are certificate or diploma programs in medical sonography that generally take from 9 months to 1 year to complete. However, most sonographers get an associate’s degree in medical sonography, which takes two years to complete. There are some programs that offer OB-GYN-related courses for sonographers that want to work in this medical area. If you want to pursue a career as an OB/GYN sonographer, it is important that you take these courses. Through these courses, you will learn how to identify female organs and undergo female-specific procedures as a sonographer. Once you complete your training program, you will be able to receive the Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) credential, which is issued by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
