How to Become an LPN Online
Becoming an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) is a great career choice for those who have a passion for helping others. The LPN is a licensed nurse who works under the supervision of an RN in hospitals, nursing homes, and other healthcare facilities. LPN’s provide basic patient care and assist with the delivery of medications, treatments and other medical procedures.
There are many benefits to becoming an LPN online. An online program allows you to study at your own pace and at times that fit your schedule. This can help you avoid rush hour traffic or finding childcare if you have children. It also allows you to save money on gas by not having to drive from place to place for class. Many programs are also available 24 hours a day so there will always be someone there when you need them.
Online programs also give students more flexibility because they can work full time while still being able to complete their education in a shorter amount of time than it would take at a traditional school like community college or university setting where students must attend class on site during set hours each week day or semester depending on what kind of degree they’re pursuing (undergraduate or graduate level).
How To Become An Lpn Online
There are no 100% LPN programs online. One cannot become an LPN strictly by taking courses online, however hybrid and other courses and programs do exist. We’ll discuss the main online LPN to RN programs available below. Again, this is after you’ve become an LPN/LVN.

Because obtaining licensure as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) requires hundreds of hours of clinical work, there are no true online LPN programs. All students must complete the majority of their coursework in brick and mortar buildings and hospitals where they interact with other nursing students and professors who have experience in the healthcare field. That’s why it’s important for potential students to be wary of any schools that claim to offer 100-percent online LPN programs.
Hybrid LPN Programs
LPN students who want the flexibility of online degrees do have the option of enrolling in schools that offer hybrid programs. These feature curriculum where some of the coursework is completed online and some is completed onsite at a local nursing school or medical facility. However, because of the heavy emphasis on clinical hours in LPN coursework, students who enroll in these programs should live within close commuting distance of the facilities where the hands-on training takes place.
LPN Refresher Courses
Certified LPNs who left the profession after a certain number of years and wish to re-enter the healthcare field can take refresher courses, which are often offered online. These courses are typically supplemented by an in-person and hands-on clinical practicum designed to get former LPNs comfortable performing their job duties again.
LPN Core Classes
Many LPN programs require that students complete a variety of core classes in science and mathematics. Many of these classes can be completed at local community colleges and are often offered online. Read an overview of the potential LPN classes you’ll be taking.
