Becoming a surgeon is no easy task. The road to becoming a surgeon requires years of education and training, but the journey can be well worth it!
Step 1: Earn Your Bachelor’s Degree
In order to apply for medical school, you’ll need to earn your bachelor’s degree before applying for medical school. While there are some programs that offer combined bachelor’s/medical degree programs, most do not. As such, you’ll need to complete at least four years of undergraduate study before applying for medical school.
Step 2: Get Accepted Into Medical School
After earning your bachelor’s degree, you must apply to one or more medical schools in order to be accepted into their undergraduate program. You’ll need to submit an application, submit transcripts (including those showing your grades), and take an entrance exam (the MCAT). If you are accepted into the program, you will have three options: attend a four-year program; attend a five-year program; or attend a six-year program (which includes an extra year of research).
Step 3: Graduate From Medical School
You’ll need to complete all of the coursework required by your school and pass several exams in order to graduate from medical school. This usually takes four years
