How To Become A Superintendent Of A School
If you want to become a superintendent of a school, you’ll need to educate yourself. There are many different paths that can lead to this career, but the most common areas of study are education and business. If you want to work in public education, there are also requirements for licensure that you’ll need to meet.
Education Requirements
You’ll need at least a bachelor’s degree in either education or business. Your degree should be from an accredited institution, which means that it has been approved by one of the accreditation organizations recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (DOE). The DOE has created an online database that lists these organizations as well as their websites so you can check them out before choosing where to pursue your education. Most schools offer online classes as well as traditional ones so you can find what works best for your schedule and needs.
Business Requirements
In addition to earning a bachelor’s degree in either business or education, there are some other things you will need before applying for jobs as a superintendent:
- You must have at least three years’ experience working with children under age 18 (or their equivalent) in an educational setting such as a school district or private school during which time you had.
