how to become a cosmetic nurse

Are you a registered nurse who is tired of working long hours in a hospital setting?

Now is the perfect time to consider a career as a cosmetic nurse in the $16 BILLION medical aesthetics industry!

The training to become a cosmetic nurse doesn’t take a month or even a year to complete. At National Laser Institute, you can receive Botox training and certification in as little as two to three days!

What is a Cosmetic Nurse?

Cosmetic nurses, commonly known as aesthetic nurses or plastic surgical nurses, are registered nurses (RNs) or nurse practitioners (NPs) who administer aesthetic treatments and procedures. RNs receive specialized training in cosmetic treatments like Botox and neurotoxin injections, dermal fillers, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) photofacials, laser hair removal, laser tattoo removal and more.

While cosmetic nursing is a relatively new and evolving field, an industry-standard training path hasn’t been finalized as it has for most other nursing specialties. That’s why it is essential to check your state’s regulations before enrolling in training for aesthetics nurses.

The good news, however, is most training programs for cosmetic nurses can be completed in as little as a weekend to two weeks of training, depending on how much training you are looking to receive.

How Can I Become a Cosmetic Nurse?

The training required for nurses is beyond the training of an aesthetician. Aesthetic nurse programs focus on skin and skin care, particularly facial skin and cosmetic treatments that alter a client’s appearance or repair damage. During Botox training, expect to learn things like:

  • Skin anatomy
  • Common dermal afflictions
  • Botox and dermal filler injection technique
  • Patient selection criteria
  • Pre and post-treatment care
  • And more!

What Will My Job Duties Be?

Cosmetic nurses work in outpatient surgical centers and medical spas, and they may work part-time or full-time. But regardless of which type of practice you work for, you will study the medical history of your client and consult with them about:

  • The results they hope to achieve.
  • The number of treatments needed.
  • What each type of cosmetic treatment is likely to achieve.
  • Any side effects or potential complications.

As a cosmetic nurse injector, you will create a personalized treatment plan to address their specific concerns.

Possible aesthetic treatments a Botox nurse administers may include Botox (botulinum toxin), dermal fillers, laser hair removal, cellulite reduction, body contouring (CoolSculpting) and more!

After completing a treatment session, you’ll assess the outcome of the procedure and provide advice on proper skin care.

Can I Start My Own Business After Botox Training?

In general, cosmetic injectables like Botox and soft tissue fillers must be purchased under a physician’s license. So, cosmetic injectors must align with a provider approved by their state who will serve as medical director.

Medical directors can be dermatologists, plastic surgeons or other licensed physicians with interest in medical aesthetics. They are responsible for providing supervision to comply with state laws as each state has its own rules as to which profession can do each procedure or treatment.

Botox Training at National Laser Institute

Are you ready to jump-start your medical aesthetics career? The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts a 16 percent job growth in cosmetic nursing until the year 2024!

At National Laser Institute, we offer several aesthetic programs for medical professionals that can be completed in as little as a weekend up to two weeks of training.

Each course is divided into two sections: didactic (classroom) and clinical hands-on training. In the classroom, you will learn about Botox injection techniques, types of facial fillers, facial anatomy, patient care and more. During hands-on training, you will watch comprehensive Botox and dermal filler demonstrations and have the opportunity to administer these cosmetic treatments yourself!

While other esthetic schools have their attendees administer botulinum toxin and dermal fillers on each other, we spend millions of dollars each year on scheduling clients for you to work on and gain real-world experience in a medical spa setting!

By the end of your course, you will feel comfortable and confident performing some of the most popular cosmetic injectables, including Botox, dermal fillers, Kybella, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and more!
