Parents always tell their kids that they’d have been a much better version of themselves if only they had gone to summer camp. While this might be a bit over the top, there is some research to support it. Today I will tell you about how to become a camp counselor at Camp Kay-O-Kee—the preeminent coed sleep away camp as well as founding director of Camp Counselor Kids — and how you can reap the same benefits this summer!

  1. Gives you the chance to be a kid again – let’s face it, summer camp is a chance to let your hair down and just enjoy yourself. Yes it’s hard work and the hours can be long, but we don’t think you’ll ever have as much fun as when you’re at camp!
  2. Travel all over the US – becoming a camp counselor allows you to venture to every corner of the US in search of a new adventure. Some of the best places to travel after camp may in fact be some of the best places to travel in the world.
  3. You will be paid well for doing something you love – counselors typically earn at least $1600 for their summer duties, which may not sound like too much but when you consider your accommodation and food is provided for the whole summer, you begin to realise it’s a lot of money.
  4. Meet friends from all around the world – between the two of us, we have stayed with friends in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, America, the UK and Ireland, all because we met at a summer camp in Upstate New York. Camp really does bring the world together!
  5. Escape social media and the ‘outside world’ for a few months – let’s face it, we all spend far too much time on social media nowadays. Being a camp counselor allows you to take a break from that and truly disconnect for a summer. It really is quite a liberating feeling!
