The Transition to RN Option is designed to assist the licensed practical nurse (LPN), paramedic and respiratory therapist in making the transition to registered professional nurse (RN). Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Exam for Register Nurses (NCLEX-RN®).

Labouré’s LPN to RN program allows you to quickly take your nursing licensure to the next level. As an LPN, you can get credit by examination for some professional coursework, meaning you’ll take fewer classes at Labouré and finish your associate degree faster.
As an LPN-RN student, you:
- Take arts and sciences courses in person or online
- Take the HESI exam to get credit for Fundamentals and Maternity/Pediatrics courses
- Practice modern nursing techniques in our state-of-the-art simulation technology lab
- Apply what you learn by caring for patients at hospitals and healthcare facilities throughout Greater Boston

- Application for Selection to the Transition to RN Option
- Validation of high school graduation by official high school transcript, high school equivalency transcript (GED®, HiSET®, TASC™, or Mississippi Competency-Based High School Equivalency), or college transcript. (For currently enrolled high school students, an updated transcript, validating high school graduation, will be required prior to beginning the program.)
- Official transcripts from all colleges attended, except Hinds Community College
- ACT composite score of 18 (f taken before October 1989 – 15)
- ACT sub-score of 18 in Math (15 if taken before October 1989) or a “C” in College Algebra.
- ACT sub-score of 18 in Reading (applicants who took the ACT prior to October 1989 must retake the ACT to obtain the Reading Sub-score).
- GPA of 2.50 or higher using the best grade achieved for prerequisites for the nursing program of study completed by the admissions deadline date. All other course work will NOT be used to calculate the GPA.
- Validation of current unencumbered professional license or certification.
- Licensed Practical Nurses and Respiratory Therapist must have one year of clinical experience, i.e. med-surg, long term care, or clinic experience. Paramedics must have at least one year of field experience. Employment must be validated on the required document and submitted to admissions processor by application deadline.
- Applicants who have been enrolled in another Transition to RN program (or its equivalent, i.e., accelerated, bridge, advanced placement, etc.) within the last four (4) years must be eligible to return to that program and must provide a letter of good standing from the nursing program attended in order to be considered for admission in the Transition to RN option of the Associate Degree Nursing Program.
- Applicants with two (2) withdrawals or failures from Hinds’ ADN Transition to RN option or any previous Transition to RN option (or its equivalent) are not eligible for admission within four (4) years from the date of the last nursing course (Transition to RN option, or equivalent) taken. If it has been more than four (4) years from the last nursing course (Transition to RN option, or equivalent) taken, applicants:
- Must meet all current admission requirements;
- Do not have to provide a letter of good standing
Prerequisites to the First Transition to RN (ADN-TRAN) Option Course (NUR 2114)
- Completion of Anatomy and Physiology I & II with labs (4 semester hrs each) and Microbiology with lab (4 semester hrs). All required courses must be completed with a “C” or above, and science courses taken prior to admission must have been completed within 5 years of entering NUR 2114.
- Completion of 3 semester hours of each of the following: English Comp I; English Comp II; General Psychology I; Human Growth & Development; Intro to Sociology; Humanities/Fine Arts Elective; Public Speaking/Interpersonal Communication.
- All required courses must be completed with a “C” or above.
- Effective for the Spring 2021 admissions for Transition Option: All course pre-requisites must be completed by the admission deadline date of February 1st.

Scholarships and grants are two types of financial aid that do not need to be repaid. Scholarships and grants may come from various sources.
Below, we’ll cover what scholarships and grants may be available through Labouré, and what other sources you may consider when looking for scholarships.
Students are responsible for completing the necessary paperwork for any scholarships offered through Labouré.
Alumni Tuition Benefit
Associate degree graduates of Labouré who return to complete an additional associate degree receive a scholarship for 50% of the cost of required courses. This benefit cannot be combined with any other scholarship or discount.
Catholic High School Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to four Catholic high school graduates each year. It covers 25% of the cost of all courses in a student’s chosen associate degree program. Generally, the student must enter Labouré in the fall semester following graduation from high school. To apply for this scholarship, please request a Catholic High School Scholarship application from your admissions counselor, and make sure you’ve filled out a FAFSA.
This scholarship cannot be combined with any other Labouré College of Healthcare scholarship or discount, and may only be applied once per course. If you stop attending, your scholarship may be discontinued.
Labouré College of Healthcare Scholarship for Steward Health Care Employees
Students in degree or certificate programs who work at least 16 hours per week at a Steward Health Care facility receive a scholarship for 25% of the cost of their courses. Degree students who work between 8 and 15 hours each week receive a scholarship for 10% of the cost of their courses.
This scholarship cannot be combined with any other Labouré College of Healthcare scholarship or discount, and verification of employment is required. The Scholarship for Steward Health Care Employees only applies to students in the ASN, Radiation Therapy, and NDT programs.
Students who have completed 24 credits toward their current program, possess a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and demonstrate exceptional financial need may be eligible for a retention scholarship. Limited funding is available.
Students must complete a Retention Scholarship application each semester they wish to apply. Applications are available on my.laboure.edu or at the Welcome Center, and must be submitted by August 1 for the Fall, December 1 for the Spring, and April 1 for the Summer.
Labouré College of Healthcare Scholarship Program
This scholarship program is available through the Office of Communications and Development. Applications are made available in late Fall, with scholarships awarded for the following Fall. Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements as described on the application.

A FAFSA must be completed to qualify for any grant aid.
Federal Pell Grant
The Federal Pell Grant is funded by the US Department of Education and can be awarded to students with exceptional financial need who have not earned a bachelor’s degree.
The amount of the grant is determined by federal government regulations. The actual grant award is determined based on financial need and the total number of credits registered for each semester.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
A companion grant to the Federal Pell Grant, this is also for students with exceptional financial aid needs who have not earned a bachelor’s degree. Students must be at least half-time (six credits) status and demonstrate exceptional financial need. There is limited funding for this grant.
This program is for full-time (12 or more credits) students who are Massachusetts residents, have exceptional need, and meet other eligibility criteria determined by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Applicants must submit the FAFSA prior to May 1. Eligibility is determined by the Massachusetts Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA) and students will be notified by OSFA via mail.
Part-time Massachusetts Grant Program
This program is for part-time (six to eleven credits) students who are Massachusetts residents, have exceptional need, and meet other eligibility criteria determined by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Students should file the FAFSA by the College’s priority deadline to receive maximum consideration. There is limited funding for this grant.
Massachusetts Gilbert Grant
This grant is funded by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and awarded by the College to full-time students who have demonstrated exceptional financial need, are residents of Massachusetts, and have not earned a bachelor’s degree.
