The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is an agency of the United States Department of Health and Human Services that regulates the safety of products for human consumption. It is responsible for protecting the public health by ensuring the safety, efficacy, and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, our nation’s food supply (including dietary supplements), cosmetics, and products that emit radiation.
The FDA also oversees our nation’s food supply, including meat, poultry, eggs, dairy products. The FDA works to promote public health by helping ensure the safety of food; advancing public health through scientific research; setting standards for foods and dietary supplements; sharing information with federal agencies and other countries; and educating consumers about how to achieve a healthy lifestyle.
