Our BA (Hons) in Fashion Design is a three-year level 8 degree course available on a full-time basis. The course will immerse you in all aspects of the fashion industry and prepare you for any role that requires both a creative flair and a technical and business knowledge.

Through lectures and practical workshops, you will develop both theoretical and technical fashion design skills through the introduction to the fashion design process, taking your ideas from initial concept to final design illustration.
You will gain an insight into the fashion design methodology, starting with market and trend analysis, customer profiling, visual research and concept development, design development, illustration to presentation of a design project. This will include a portfolio of work with sketchbooks, fashion presentation boards, fashion illustrations, learn how to use a sewing machine and create sewing samples.
Each week you will have a lecture which will give you an understanding of the history of fashion design, its cycle and how it influences current trend.
The programme consists of lectures, workshops and studio sessions, and is assessed through design projects, and presentation.
This course is ideal if you have an interest in the area of fashion design, or if you wish to further your understanding of the fashion design process.

- Introduction to the Fashion Design Process: Understand the process of fashion design, and the roles in the fashion industry.
- Brand Research: Examine the DNA of a fashion brand
- Fashion Design History: Explore clothing and fashion design throughout the ages, and understand the continuing influence of fashion movements upon current trends.
- Concept Development: Develop inspired, original ideas, and practise communicating your ideas to fashion design team members.
- Mood Boards, Colour Boards, Fabric Boards: Learn how to present your inspiration and your fabric and colour choices to a high standard – and create some impressive portfolio pieces.
- Fashion Illustration: Learn how to use a variety of materials, media, and techniques to create your own vivid fashion design illustrations.
- Sewing: Explore sewing techniques using sewing machines.

Certification
On successful completion of this course, you will be awarded a Dublin Institute of Design Associate Certificate in Fashion Design.
You will also have some impressive portfolio pieces to showcase your varied skill set.
Progression Options
As a graduate of this course, you will be eligible to progress into the Term 2 of our 1-year Higher National Certificate in Fashion Design programme.
You will be able to avail of a fee reduction.
Entry Requirements
Applicants aged under 23 must have completed the Leaving Cert, or a comparable secondary school examination, or have another Level 5 Qualification.
