There are a lot of jobs in Texas oil and gas, but if you’re just starting out, it can be hard to know what to look for. Here are some entry-level positions that will give you a great start in the industry.
Oil and Gas Service Technicians
These technicians work on oil rigs and pipelines to ensure that they are properly functioning. They may also perform maintenance or repairs, depending on their individual job duties. To become an oil and gas service technician, you must have at least an associate’s degree in engineering or another related field. You may also need to complete an apprenticeship program before applying for full-time employment with a company in this field.
Petroleum Engineers
Petroleum engineers are responsible for finding new sources of oil while also maintaining existing ones, as well as developing new methods of extracting oil from its natural environment (such as through drilling). To become a petroleum engineer, you’ll need at least a bachelor’s degree in either chemical engineering or geology—and it helps if your major was one of those two topics!
