Entry Level Jobs in Biomedical Engineering
Biomedical engineers use their knowledge of engineering, biology, and medicine to solve problems in fields like health care, diagnostics and measurement. They design medical devices and instruments, develop new methods and procedures for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease, manage research projects and more.
Biomedical engineering is one of the fastest growing fields in engineering, with an expected growth rate of 17% through 2024. To meet this demand for professionals with a background in biomedical engineering, many colleges and universities offer bachelor’s degrees in biomedical engineering. These programs can take about four years to complete and include courses in math, chemistry and physics as well as biology-related courses such as anatomy and physiology. Many schools also offer graduate degrees in biomedical engineering, which can lead to careers as educators or researchers at universities or other institutions that perform research on human health conditions or create new technologies related to healthcare delivery.
