This is a book about writing for the web. Some of the material contained within it may seem a bit old-fashioned. You’ll find no mention of Facebook or Twitter, for example, or of Facebook’s role in the Arab Spring; nor will you find much discussion of how to use hashtags effectively. Instead, you’ll find a focus on writing for the web as it was ten years ago. This book is all about writing clearly and concisely to make your words sparkle across any screen.
A lot has changed since this book was first published in 2003. Back then I wrote it on my own, and then had it edited by a small team at Sitepoint. The staff at Sitepoint reviewed earlier drafts of the manuscript and provided helpful feedback on what they liked and what they didn’t like. They also contributed some insightful suggestions that helped me improve the book considerably. I’m grateful to them all for their time, patience and help.
