Aditya Bhargava, author of Grokking Algorithms, says “What you have done is very innovative. I wish more people would read your blog.” If you are one of those many learners who has no access to expensive textbooks on algorithms and data structures, this blog is for you.

Hello, my name is Aditya Chandra Bhargava. I am a member of the faculty at Stanford University. I am also an adjunct professor at Columbia University, UCLA, and NYU. My research interests are in Computer Security, cryptography, privacy, e-voting, cloud computing, behavioral economics, machine learning, network security and privacy with an emphasis on their applications to cybercrime. I have designed and taught classes on crypto algorithms since 2001. During this time I have developed new courses on modern crypto algorithms (2003), Internet security (2005), various advanced topics in security (2006), Advanced Topics in Databases (

Harnessing the Power of Algorithms reveals the power of algorithms for college learners. This book is an essential tool addressing the needs of prospective students who are planning to take up algorithms in their college courses, either in an engineering or information technology discipline.

The book covers each and every topic from the basics to the complexity of data structures, algorithms and problem-solving techniques. It includes puzzles, quizzes, end of chapter exercises and projects that will help the students apply the knowledge in a better way. With this book you will be able control your classes and then score higher grades, feel confident about going to an interview for a programming job and most importantly have confidence when someone asks you to write software for them!.

An algorithm is nothing more than a step-by-step procedure for solving a problem. The algorithms you’ll use most often as a programmer have already been discovered, tested, and proven. If you want to take a hard pass on Knuth’s brilliant but impenetrable theories and the dense multi-page proofs you’ll find in most textbooks, this is the book for you. This fully-illustrated and engaging guide makes it easy for you to learn how to use algorithms effectively in your own programs.

Grokking Algorithms is a disarming take on a core computer science topic. In it, you’ll learn how to apply common algorithms to the practical problems you face in day-to-day life as a programmer. You’ll start with problems like sorting and searching. As you build up your skills in thinking algorithmically, you’ll tackle more complex concerns such as data compression or artificial intelligence. Whether you’re writing business software, video games, mobile apps, or system utilities, you’ll learn algorithmic techniques for solving problems that you thought were out of your grasp. For example, you’ll be able to:
Write a spell checker using graph algorithms
Understand how data compression works using Huffman coding
Identify problems that take too long to solve with naive algorithms, and attack them with algorithms that give you an approximate answer instead
Each carefully-presented example includes helpful diagrams and fully-annotated code samples in Python. By the end of this book, you will know some of the most widely applicable algorithms as well as how and when to use them.

About The Author For Grokking Algorithms Pdf

TalkPython interviewed me about Grokking Algorithms! Listen here: https://talkpython.fm/episodes/show/82/grokking-algorithms-in-python

I’ve been drawing and programming for the last two decades, and enjoy both very much. I started coding by making video games in Basic and ActionScript, and I sold my first game at age 14. After getting my MS from UChicago, I’ve been working at startups that align with my interests: books (Scribd) and art (Etsy). I’m currently a Staff Engineer at Etsy, where I help our sellers sell more goods.

I have been teaching for the last seven years. I started by teaching the Intro to Python class at Noisebridge. Over the years, I have tried to understand how to break down hard concepts so that they are easy to learn. My first book, Grokking Algorithms, came out in 2016. I blog at adit.io and tweet at @_egonschiele.
