Learning Objectives

Throughout your studies, you will learn the critical mechanical engineering principles applied in mechanical design and technology of equipment. You get exposed to real world applications and  problems which need to be solved by mechanical engineers by designing and developing  mechanical systems/equipments using state of the art tools of computing and analysis. You will get exposed to work individually and in a group during you study. As the course progresses, you will also learn about management and the business context of engineering management of projects. Thus you can gain the confidence to tackle the varied and demanding work challenges of a real life engineering problems.

Teaching and Learning Methods

This programme is facilitated   by the TEG faculty of engineering locally. All the teaching materials and Examination & Assessment are provided by University of Sunderland. The modules are taught locally using a variety of relevant and appropriate learning tools and techniques for example, formal lectures, tutorials, case studies, use of appropriate engineering software for laboratory, and directed reading. Directed learning and supervision for projects is provided by the local faculty. The UOS faculty team provides seminars, lecture on latest trends in engineering/technology fields during their audit visits and over various occasions of their visits.

Assessment and Examinations

The students pursuing the Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering are assessed by written examinations and course works which includes assignments, written reports, research etc in total. The written  examination is  prepared by University of Sunderland(UOS). All the assessments of written examinations and course works are done by UOS and are based on ensuring  that the key learning outcomes of the modules are covered. The assessment strategy has been formulated and governed by University of Sunderland.

Graduation Requirements and Progression

Students are required to successfully pass 7 modules (120 Credits) for a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) award. Upon successful completion of the programme, students can apply for a wide range of employments in engineering and/or management as engineers/managers. Successful students can progress into Master programme recommended and conducted by UOS/ TEG International College and the other international universities.


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

A candidate must satisfy one, or combination, of the following requirements:

1. Hold one of the following prior to commencement of the Programme:

  • Local Polytechnic Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Pearson BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Other qualifications will be evaluated on an individual basis. Candidates will be required to produce a full transcripts and certificates of their prior learning. All admission decisions by the university will be final.

2. Where an applicant’s first language is not English and where an applicant possesses qualifications other than those indicated above, evidence of Level 6.0 attainment in the International English Language Testing Scheme and / or TOFEL score of 550 and / or TEG Certificate in General English and English for Academic Purposes is required.

  • Students who have successfully completed 2 years of full-time study conducted in English medium may satisfy the English Language requirement.
  • Students who do not meet the above requirements are required to pass TEG English Language Entry Test OR an interview to be conducted by the TEG International College Academic Director (ELT).

Attendance Requirements

International Students (ICA student pass holder) must attend a minimum of 90% of scheduled course hours at all time. A minimum attendance of 75% must be achieved for local students (Singaporean, PR, Employment Pass, S-Pass and work permit holders etc.) who are not holding student pass. Students whose attendance is below 90% (ICA Student Pass holder) and 75% (local students) are not eligible to submit the assignment or sit for the examination.

A student who is absent or considered to be absent from class/session, must provide documentary proof i.e. Original Medical Certificate issued by a General Practitioner, Polyclinic or Hospital to his/her Course Administrator immediately on his/her return to school.

All applications for admission should be submitted at least four (4) weeks before the commencement date. An application processing fee (inclusive of 7% GST) is payable for each application that is submitted. This fee is Non-Refundable.

Teacher – Student Ratio

TEG teacher-student ratio will not exceed:

1:40 for lecturing

1:30 for classroom teaching; and

1:20 for tutorials
