Edge Hill University Application Process

If you have been asked to complete a DBS application as a condition of your offer, you may have been asked to complete the application online.

You will be sent an information pack, if you haven’t received it already, with instructions on how to complete the form online. Please read the guidance sheet entitled “What To Do Next” which provides information on how to complete the application.

The Process

An e-mail will be sent to the address supplied on your original application inviting you to select your identity documents. You will then be required to attend a DBS Drop in session in order to have your identity documents verified. Once this has been completed you will then be sent a link that will enable you to complete your DBS application online.

Please note that if you are required to pay for your DBS application you will be unable to fully complete your application online until payment has been made.

If you are required to pay for your DBS check you can do so via our online store. Please add Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to your basket and follow the online instructions. You will be asked to provide your student number, this will be detailed on the correspondence we have sent to you.

If you are unsure if you need to pay for your DBS application please check the original documentation we have sent to you.

The Identity Checking Process

The DBS have introduced enhancements to identity checking guidelines. This means that a number of pieces of identification that previously could be used to apply for a DBS check are no longer acceptable. The DBS have introduced this measure in order to strengthen the process used by Registered Bodies for validating an applicants identity.

If you are able to produce at least one item from Group 1 and 2 further items from Group 2a/2b, to include one item to confirm your current address, then your ID will be processed in the usual way and you will not be required to do anything further.

If you are unable to provide an item from Group 1 you will be asked to provide 3 items of identification. At least two of these items must be from Group 2a, with one item proving your current address. This will be combined with an external ID verification check. This will be completed by Experian, through our online DBS provider Atlantic Data. A record of the search will be retained, but will not be visible to other parties or affect your credit record. Providing this check is passed your ID will then be processed and the application can continue.

If for any reason this check is not passed then you will be asked to provide five items of identification. This must include your Birth Certificate, at least one further item from Group 2a, plus three further items from Group 2, with one item proving your current address.

If you are unable to produce the required documentation for the DBS check then we will have to begin the fingerprinting process, the costs of which would be covered by the applicant.
