As we’ve seen in some of our previous posts on the topic, this period saw significant advances in how society thought about cities and how they functioned both socially and economically—it was also an era marked by increased immigration from Europe as people were drawn to newly industrializing nations like France, Germany, England and even America. This led to increased urbanization as populations moved into cities for work opportunities or simply because it was easier than living on a farm!
