The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP) music college has been developing and delivering contemporary music education for over 30 years – longer than any other music school in the UK. Founded in 1986, ICMP was originally known as The Guitar Institute and Basstech, but soon expanded to offer courses in drums, vocals and other instruments; songwriting; music business and music production. We pride ourselves on our small class sizes, 1 to 1 tuition, high number of teaching contact hours, personalised approach to student engagement, regular one-to-one support, and dynamic use of technology in the classroom – innovations you just won’t find to the same extent at any other modern music college.

Services for International Students

ICMP has a dedicated Wellbeing team available on-site to offer assistance, information and guidance with many aspects of student life. Students are able to book one-to-one appointments with the team to discuss personal and welfare matters in a supportive environment. The team can also offer practical advice and guidance to international students as they settle into their new surroundings.

Although ICMP doesn’t provide accommodation, we organise a number of House Hunting events designed to not only help you find a property, but also to assist you with your search for housemates to live with. These events are open to all new students arriving in September, and also any current students who are returning for their second year of study. We also invite various local estate agents to present their latest student accommodation.

As well as being one of the most exciting and vibrant cities in the world, London is at the heart of the global music industry, constantly at the cutting edge of music, defining popular culture throughout the world and offering unparalleled opportunities to make the right connections.

academy of contemporary music

The Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) is a music academy in Guildford, Surrey, England providing its own contemporary music-based courses and partnering three public institutions, one college and two universities in respect of many of their contemporary music courses.

The school of music has a focus on rock, pop music, electronic dance music and a vocational approach. The school has links with Guildford’s Electric Theatre, Guildford College, Middlesex University and University of Surrey

The Academy of Contemporary Music has been training artists, producers and business entrepreneurs for careers in the creative industries since 1995.

With our state-of-the-art facilities, world-class faculty and extensive connections within the music industry, ACM offers music courses that develop you to your highest potential and, most importantly, immerse you in the creative industries.

The Academy of Contemporary Music was the brainchild of guitar tutor Phil Brookes[3] and Peter Anderton of Andertons Music Co..[4] In the 2000s, the academy partnered with three educational establishments for awarding qualifications. These are Guildford College which grants BTEC/Edexcel awards for the lower discipline, Middlesex University and the University of Surrey. The latter validate the Certificate in Higher Education for the intermediate discipline, award degrees at BA (Hons) and BMus (Hons) through to an MA (Masters) in contemporary music in partnership with ACM.

In May 2008 ACM was awarded The Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation (Technology) (2008).[5] In late 2009, with support from the UniveKrsity of Central Oklahoma, ACM opened a base outside of the UK in Downtown Oklahoma City, appointing Scott Booker as executive director.

In August 2013, ownership of ACM was acquired by Kainne Clements, who also co-owns Metropolis Studios
