The College of Southern Nevada offers a 21-month Associate of Applied Science degree in Radiation Therapy. The ARRT credential in Radiography or Nuclear Medicine is not required for admission into the Associate of Applied Science degree program. The program prepares the graduate to work with radiation oncologists in delivering daily doses of ionizing radiation to the prescribed tumor volume. Students receive both classroom instruction and supervised clinical experience in cancer centers.
Radiation Therapists apply knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, oncology, radiation techniques, treatment planning and dosimetry in their work. Effective communication with patients, health professionals, and the public is essential. Competence and compassion must be displayed in meeting the special needs of the oncology patients.
Radiation Therapists do the following:
- Administer a prescribed course of radiation therapy, provide patient care, and maintain treatment records.
- Evaluate and assess the radiation delivery, the responses of the patient, and ensure the quality of care.
- May also do tumor localization, patient follow-up, and patient education.

LIMITED ENTRY PROGRAM
This is a limited-entry program. Some of these courses are program prerequisites and MUST be completed before a student is considered eligible for entry into the Program. Students MUST attend a Health Programs orientation and meet with a Health Programs advisor for additional advisement.
The Dental Hygienist is the licensed prevention specialist in the dental health team, providing health education, administering local anesthesia, removing deposits and stains from teeth, exposing x-rays, and applying topical fluoride. The curriculum is demanding, requiring a high degree of individual motivation, stamina, and manual dexterity. Graduates will be eligible to take the written national Board and clinical State or Regional Boards in order to become licensed.
This program of classroom and clinical instruction is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and has been granted the accreditation status of “approval without reporting requirements.” The Commission is a specialized accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education. STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
Demonstrate treatments that include preventive and therapeutic procedures to promote and maintain oral health and assist the patient in achieving oral health goals. Demonstrate the ability to acquire and synthesize information in a critical, scientific, and effective manner. Demonstrate the ability to initiate and assume responsibility for health promotion and disease prevention activities for diverse populations. Incorporate knowledge of scientific methods and the relationships among theory, experiments and analyses and apply these to a problem or issue in biology. Demonstrate knowledge of basic laboratory safety procedures and experimentation skills.
Pima radiography program
This associate degree program includes coursework, instruction and hands-on learning that will prepare you to work as a professional entry-level radiologic technologist. Course content covers both the personal and clinical skills needed in this role. At Pima Medical Institute, classes introduce topics such as anatomy and physiology and radiographic techniques, as well as communication and methods of patient care.
At Pima Medical Institute, most programs allow students to work in their field through clinical externships—a chance to be mentored by full-time professionals and interface with real patients. In addition to real-world experience, clinical externships offer students resume-worthy opportunities, letters of recommendation from supervisors, and sometimes job placement directly after graduation. The day-to-day responsibilities of a radiologic technologist include adjusting and maintaining imaging equipment, preparing patients, performing the procedure and evaluating images before physician review.
Students in the Radiography program will be introduced to a number of topics by expert instructors that prepare them to work as a radiologic technologist, including examination techniques, equipment protocols, radiation safety and radiation protection. Students will also learn how to take medical histories, answer questions and evaluate images for physicians.
Graduates of the program from this school will be eligible to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists – Radiography Certification Exam.
