Introduction
BS/MD Programs
BS/MD programs are a great way to get a medical degree, save money and time, and fulfill your dream of becoming a doctor.
If you want to become a doctor but don’t want to spend all the money on tuition at once, then this is the program for you! A BS/MD program allows you to attend college and graduate with an undergraduate degree before going on to medical school. You’ll be able to start saving money right away instead of needing years before getting started in your career as an MD candidate. Also, if you have already graduated from college with your bachelor’s degree but still have yet not been accepted into medical school yet (or even if your application was denied), then consider applying for one of these special programs with schools like Georgetown University or Tulane University where they will allow current students who meet certain criteria including high GPA requirements along with others listed below:
Eligibility Requirements
- You must be a US citizen or permanent resident.
- You must have completed at least a high school education, including passing the state’s exit exam for high school graduation (or have earned a GED).
- You must be accepted to WSU as an undergraduate student.
- You must be enrolled full-time in your program of study at WSU. For the purposes of this requirement, “full-time” means 12 credit hours per semester; however, you may take up to 18 hours each semester with approval from your academic advisor and financial aid counselor if needed.
- Your GPA will be calculated as follows: The cumulative GPA will be determined by adding all grade point values earned in courses taken at any institution(s) attended since high school graduation (or since earning the GED) and dividing by total credit hours attempted after high school graduation (or since earning the GED).
Timeline for Students Interested in the BS/MD Pathway
Students interested in the BS/MD pathway must apply to WSU by December 1st. Students must complete the WSU application and submit all required documents by December 1st.
Once you’ve submitted your application, you will receive an email from us with further instructions on how to schedule an interview with a WSU representative who will review your application file and answer any questions you may have about applying to WSU or our medical school program.

The BS/MD Experience
The BS/MD program is a 5-year program that allows undergraduate students to earn an MD degree in addition to their bachelor’s degree. Students must complete a total of 120 credits, which includes 60 credits for the first three years and 30 credits for the fourth year.
Students must complete a total of 30 credits in their first two years before progressing into advanced medical training. Students are required to take core science classes as well as electives such as anatomy, physiology, biology and chemistry. They also have the opportunity to participate in research projects or internships related to health sciences fields where they can gain hands-on experience working directly with patients or clinical researchers who specialize in medicine or dentistry.
After completing their first 60 college credits (or third year), students may apply for admission into one of our three 4-year residency programs: Internal Medicine (IM), Family Medicine (FM) or Pediatrics (P).
