I have compiled a list of the best cities in the United States for entry level jobs. These are cities that have a high number of entry level jobs available and a low unemployment rate.
The top 5 cities for entry level jobs are:
- Houston, TX – The state of Texas has a great economy and many companies looking to hire young people. Houston has a low unemployment rate at 4% and an average rent of $1,350 per month.
- San Jose, CA – The city is known as “Silicon Valley” because it is home to many tech companies like Google, Apple and Facebook. The rent is expensive at $2,500 per month but there are many entry-level jobs available for graduates looking for work in the tech industry.
- Boston, MA – Boston has been named one of the best cities for college graduates by Forbes magazine because it has so many colleges within its borders (Boston University alone has over 35,000 students). It also has a low unemployment rate at 3%. And while rent may be more expensive than other areas on this list ($2,400 per month), there are still plenty of entry-level positions available at companies like Amazon or Symantec Corporation

In order to determine the best U.S. cities for entry-level jobs, NerdWallet analyzed several factors:
- The number of available entry-level jobs compared with the population of each city. Unfortunately, this data isn’t readily available online; so to obtain it, we contacted each metropolitan area’s Chamber of Commerce or Downtown Development Authority offices directly. In total, we collected data from 15 metro areas across 10 states (see our methodology below).
