This degree course can be studied either as a full-time degree programme or as a cooperative study course in cooperation with a partner from the aviation industry. The content structure for students of the cooperative study course is identical to the one for students of the full-time degree course. Students of the full-time degree course in particular are expected to gain work experience during their studies which will be equivalent in length of time and content specifications to those of students in the cooperative study course.

If you want to work in aviation, but not necessarily as a pilot, this is the degree for you. The aviation industry requires a large corporate world to function successfully. The Bachelor of Aviation (Management) addresses these issues to produce graduates with essential skills and knowledge in the fields of science, engineering, interpersonal relations, the environment and management. This skill base provides a solid foundation upon which you can expect to advance to positions of management and influence within the aviation industry.

Students are exposed to current aviation topics and often work in teams to solve contemporary air transport problems. Learning exercises range from operating a start-up airline in a management simulation to exploring the cognitive abilities of humans in the fast-developing environment of aviation.

Graduates of the management degree have a broad education that provides a solid base for pursuing a career in aviation. This will enable them to also achieve professional flying qualifications. You will commence your studies with an introduction to aviation, aviation management and safety. There are also courses in professional and technical communication, and human factors. You’ll even have the chance to spend a semester flying in our simulators to understand the pilot side of aviation.

As your studies progress you will explore aviation law, finance, economics and marketing; airline operations management; airport, project and strategic management; and risk and safety systems. You’ll also study leadership, and communications and research methods.

You will study one elective from any of the University of South Australia electives, and one from the Bachelor of Aviation (Flight) degree or other aviation-related electives.

Study hours

For each course you study, you will need to allocate time for various classes such as lectures, tutorials, workshops, seminars and practicals. Plus you will need additional hours to study in your own time to complete assignments, readings and projects, as well as to contribute to online discussion forums (independent study). So as a general rule, if you are studying full-time you would need to allocate 12–26 hours of study when at university and 14–28 hours of independent study per week.

I’m an academic in UniSA’s aviation program, I teach courses and conduct research into aviation safety, specifically in standardisation and multiculturalism. Aviation Management

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE

Pilots are only one part of the aviation industry—leaders are also needed to manage airports, airlines and more. CBU’s aviation management program will prepare students to do just that. Students will learn the business of aviation, completing courses in aviation safety, security, finance and consulting, airport management, airport planning and design, and more. Upon graduation, and depending on the concentration selected, graduates will be prepared to enter various segments of the aviation industry, including aerospace technology, airport management and operations, dispatch, flight operations or logistics and operations.

Why study aviation management at CBU?

Learn the business side of aviation
This program is designed for students who desire a non-flight career with flexible career options. It’s a business-based aviation degree, and includes courses in airport management, airline management, aviation consulting, airport planning and design, aviation finance and more. Students will learn from an accredited airport executive and certified aviation manager with airport industry experience. They’ll have the opportunity to tour various airports and attend the American Association of Airport Executives annual conference.

We currently have a brand-new fleet of Piper aircraft, a 9,000 square-foot Flight Operations Center with classrooms, flight planning room, flight simulators, full kitchen and student lounge. Riverside Municipal Airport offers a safe flight training environment, with two paved runways, and is less than three miles from the CBU campus.Schedule Tour
