Many of us wonder what the typical salary for a product manager is. Unfortunately, the answer isn’t that simple. A lot depends on the company and the industry. For example, I could pull up salary data for three different tech companies (SAP, Amazon, Google) and their results would be different.

The average salary of a product manager is $133,646. According to Glassdoor, the lowest tenured product managers earned an average salary of $58,078 annually and the highest tenured product managers earned an average salary of $215,408 annually.
As you can see, it does depend on the company and position of which you speak. Product Managers in large software companies may earn that $150K a year, but then again, so do those in other industries. Even if the number seems high, remember that you’ll have an opportunity to make up for an average salary by taking on side projects. Note that what we call “average” is not actually middle of the road—compensation for this position is pretty high overall, and as long as you’re talented and have a solid network, it should be relatively easy to get started.
