Aurora College is located in the Northwest Territories of Canada focusing on student success. It was established in the year 1995. It commits to develop the Northern Society. The College is a modern and comprehensive post-secondary institution connected through transfer agreements and partnerships to a wide network of technical schools, colleges, and universities in Canada and the circumpolar world.

On average, 499 students are enrolled as full – time, 2591 students as part-time, 71 students as an apprentice, and 1843 students as indigenous.

  • Due to COVID – 19, the Fall Semester is supposed to be in distance learning, except some specific programs which will be conducted by both, distance and face to face. Student residences will open in time for the start of the fall semester.
  • There is a provision for a refund of tuition fees for students who are dissatisfied with a distance learning experience. The application forms are still received by contact one of the campus and also being accepted online.
  • First-time students, students that do not have reliable access to the internet or students requiring assistance in completing their applications, can request a call back from an SFA staff member. Aurora College International Admissions

Taking admission requires some extra documentation from international students. The documents required are given below.

Academic Requirements:

  • International students have to submit an English Language Proficiency Test results.
  • Transcripts are to be submitted in one of Canada’s official languages which are in English or French language.

Note: The international students should not send their application before July for the semester that begins in September. It will hamper the receiving of student visas.

International Student Application Information

• There is currently no application fee for International Students, however, if you are offered a seat in an Aurora College program, you will be required to make a non-refundable deposit of $500 to hold your seat.

• Some programs may hold seats for international applications based on previous year trends of enrolment of domestic students. Other programs may only review international applications after all domestic applications have been reviewed. For more information about a specific program, email info@auroracollege.nt.ca 

• Upon receipt of an international application, we will inform the applicant by email of whether your international application will be considered or not. Some applicants may be waitlisted until a later date if you qualify for the program.

• New International applicants may be required to provide results of an English Language proficiency test at the time of application.

• International Student applicants must provide sufficient information for the Admissions officer to assess transcripts and determine Canadian equivalencies.

• If Canadian equivalencies cannot be determined based on what has been submitted, the application will be rejected. 

• International Students are strongly encouraged to review the program admission requirements to determine eligibility prior to applying.

• Transcripts should be submitted in English.

• It is strongly recommended that applicants have transcripts interpreted by a recognized Canadian transcript assessment service, such as International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).

Tuition and Fees:Tuition for International Students (as of July 1, 2020) is $5,400 plus student fees per semester for most degree, diploma and certificate programs. Aurora College Campus and Accommodations

Aurora College has three campuses in Fort Smith, Inuvik and Yellowknife. Each of the campuses offers different programs and has modern teaching facilities. The Inuvik campus features a variety of outdoor activities from walking and cross-country ski trails, to a large indoor recreation centre with swimming pools, racquetball courts, and hockey.

The Thebacha campus is home to the School of Trades, Apprenticeship and Industrial Training, the Centre for Mine and Industry Training. The Yellowknife campus is home to most of the multicultural student body. Aurora College has a library each at three campuses that include several facilities including ebooks, DVD, video and print journals.

The campus also consists of several student associations and organizations that are responsible for social activities. Students willing to study in Canada can enjoy events and communications between students and the Aurora campus.

Aurora College Accommodation 

Aurora College provides various housing options to both single students and families. The Inuvik and Thebacha campus housing have limited accommodation for international students. International students are responsible to find their accommodations. The residents of the Northwest Territories are given priority for student accommodations.

The campus housing features a variety of units including shared accommodations, dorms, apartments, and row houses. Yellowknife North Slave Campus offers apartments and suite-style housing and includes all the basic facilities such as kitchen, laundry, etc. Thebacha Campus Housing includes apartment, single residence and row housing as well and the Aurora campus includes family and single residence. Most of the halls include laundry, kitchen, and much more. Students who are enrolled in full-time programs are eligible for housing.

Aurora College Programs

Started with the first course Heavy Equipment Operator today the college offers over 30 programs that include a bachelor’s degree, academic upgrading, trades and industrial training, post-secondary certificate, diploma and vocational training, and a variety of Continuing Education options.

  • Programs are offered in five fields: Business, Education, Health, Environment, Trades, Apprenticeship & Industrial Training.
  • The college offers only one B.Sc. degree in Nursing in partnership with the University of Victoria.
  • Certificate courses, diploma programs, academic upgrading programs include Adult Literacy and Basic Education, Occupation and College Access Program, University and College Access program.
  • In addition, the college also offers continuing education that includes professional development courses, computer software workshops, certification-based courses in First Aid, WHMIS and general courses.

I opted for this particular college because my elder sister has been a part of it and guided me well by providing all the necessary information. I had completed my class 12 with 87% and wanted to complete a diploma course in business administration from this college. “My experience at Aurora College”

I always wanted to have an educational degree from an international university. I researched the top colleges in Canada that provide B.Ed. degree and applied in them. Aurora college’s campus being near to my relative’s place was my preference. I applied by paying an international student application fee of almost $200.

Fees : 

The tuition fee for my program was on a per-semester basis. I had to pay $1800 per semester. I paid the tuition fee out of pocket with help from my family. I also applied for a scholarship and was awarded 1000 CAD per semester that was paid towards tuition and other programme related fees.
