Assumption University is currently working on accreditation steps and is aiming to launch a master’s level Physician Assistant program in 2024.

University Breaks Ground on Health Sciences Building
The new, 41,000-square foot building will feature four classrooms, one for 32 students, two for 48 and a large tiered classroom for 50. These classrooms will not only be used exclusively for the nursing and physician assistant program, rather all academic programs on campus. Each classroom will be fully equipped with a recording system for simulations that will be used during debriefings.
The physician assistant floor will feature a practice lab with 11 exam tables for teaching how to properly diagnosis a condition. Two simulation labs, comparable to the nursing floor, complement four Objective Structured Clinical Examination rooms where live ‘patient-actors’ will dictate a script of medical maladies to teach students how to take a medical history, diagnose a patient and perform a physical exam. The clinical lab space also will serve as a learning environment for clinical procedures, such as suturing and interventional skills. The program will welcome its first cohort of students in January 2021.

Description
Physician Assistants (PAs) are health professionals licensed to practice
medicine with physician supervision. Within the physician/PA
relationship, PAs exercise autonomy in medical decision making and
provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services.
Physician Assistants are trained in such tasks as screening patients,
taking histories, performing physical exams, performing
developmental screening exams for children, managing emergencies,
etc. A physician willing to accept responsibility may assign more
complicated therapeutic procedures to the PA who has demonstrated
ability.

graduates of Clark University who meet the qualifications noted in the
student responsibilities below. The PA program maintains the right to
verify qualifications, particularly clinical experience, prior to
confirmation of an interview offer. No interview will be scheduled
until the CASPA application has been released to the PA Program and
verified. Assumption College PA Program does not guarantee
admission to applicants who qualify for an interview. Students must
apply to the Assumption College PA Program via the Centralized
Application Service for Physician Assistants (CASPA).
Student responsibilities:
Student is in good standing and on track to graduate within one
semester with a BA degree from Clark.
Have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or above.
Have a minimum of 500 hours of verifiable “hands on” health care
experience.
Have a recommendation from an institutional “health professions”
committee.
Complete PA prerequisite course listed below with a minimum 3.20

Welcome to the School of Health Professions at Assumption University. The School consists of the undergraduate majors in Human Services and Rehabilitation Studies (HSRS) and Health Sciences.
Led by a distinguished and experienced faculty, many of whom also practice in their respective disciplines, the undergraduate majors are designed to prepare learners for a career in one of many health professions. Building on the robust liberal arts curriculum based on Catholic principles, the courses within the two majors will help students develop knowledge that prepares them for career of service to others within the health care field. Students will gain an awareness of real world factors that are determinants of health for their future patients and clients. Learners will discover factors related to access to care and how illnesses affect the lives of patients and their families. Moreover, our students will further appreciate the importance of empathy and compassion in relating to those they serve.
The majors help prepare students for medical school, dental school, and graduate programs in physician assistant studies, counseling psychology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, rehabilitation counseling, school counseling, school psychology, child life, special education, social work and speech-language pathology. There are multiple concentrations available including occupational therapy, physical therapy, communication sciences and disorders, and working with children and adolescents in community settings. Students who pursue these majors and concentrations may also be interested in working in health care administration or health care policy positions. The Health Sciences and HSRS majors will prepare graduates in those fields as well.
Included in both majors are internships in health care settings. These internships are designed to provide experience in an atmosphere consistent with the student’s interests and will provide networking opportunities moving forward.
