Program Information

With an ever increasing need for agricultural business employment, the Lambton College Agri-Business Management, Ontario College Graduate Certificate program is designed for students who wish to enter a career in the agricultural sector at the supervisory level, or to manage relationships in an agri-business environment typical of a sales or other agricultural services role.

In this multi-disciplined program, students utilize existing related education or experience to learn and apply a variety of skills to help operate and manage an agricultural business. Students develop a foundation of business skills, including communications, accounting, human resources, relationship managing and marketing strategies that apply to the Canadian agricultural industry of today. With the rapid adoption of agricultural technology, students study the impact of this technology on farm operations, as well as on other applications, from software to farm machinery.

To round out the learning, students study environmental farm management to gain a deeper understanding of the production of food, feed, and fuel as well as livestock physiology and health, pest control management and new and emerging agri-business technology. This hands-on program will include a real-world course on farm machinery to provide a robust understanding on farm equipment operations and safety.

  • Medical Insurance is mandatory for all full-time, part-time, and co-op students of Lambton College. Medical insurance is provided by guard.me – a third-party insurance provider. Full-time, part-time and co-op students of Lambton College are not permitted to opt-out of the medical insurance fee as it is non-cancellable and non-transferable. Guard.me insurance costs are charged on an annual basis.
  • Coverage is effective only from the first day of classes – not from the date you arrive in Canada. If your arrival date is prior to the start of classes, it is strongly recommended that you purchase travel insurance, including health insurance coverage, to cover yourself until the first official day of classes. 
  • The health care insurance is for emergency health care coverage during one’s study period and involves only a basic package. Not all medical conditions are covered and prospective students are strongly urged to review the coverage details prior to arriving in Canada. This will allow time to purchase additional coverage before departure, if needed.

WIL Project Fees

Agricultural studies delves into the relationships between the social, economic, political and environmental factors that affect the agricultural sector, from farm level production to international policy.

This unique program focuses on both the art and the science of agricultural practices from theoretical and applied perspectives, including extensive lab experience and a special emphasis on current issues and cutting-edge research.

As an agricultural studies student, you will develop an expansive breadth and depth of knowledge in all things agriculture. Firmly grounded in the humanities and natural and social sciences, this liberal education approach ensures comprehensive, multi-faceted exposure to the study of agriculture and agri-food.

As a multidisciplinary major, agricultural studies takes full advantage resources and course offerings in the Departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Geography & Environment and Economics.

Description of program

  • GDBA – A five-course, part-time or full-time program designed to deliver crucial management skills through relevant course offerings with flexibility for working professionals who have at least five years of work experience. No GMAT requirement.
  • MBA – A traditional 20-course MBA program is open to full and part-time students. It is designed to prepare highly qualified students to become executive decision-makers who are cognizant of their operating environment, including international dimensions. The MBA program’s key objectives are to: 1) develop future managers’ problem-solving and decision-making skills, enabling them to identify, analyze, and solve complex and unstructured problems; and 2) provide a broad operating knowledge of management concepts and practices that can adapt to a wide variety of organizations and environments. The program can be completed in two years of full-time study though the duration of program may be reduced depending on the number of course exemptions received. Applicants who have completed relevant coursework in business, economics and statistics may be exempt from up to 10 courses (30 credit hours). Applicants must have achieved a grade of 75 per cent or higher in the relevant equivalent undergraduate courses, and have completed them within seven years from the year in which they are seeking admission to the MBA program. Transcript evaluations are completed by the Course-based Masters Office.
  • MBA-SEE – A 12-month, full-time MBA-SEE program designed to create agents of change. In gaining skills to manage social enterprises and to create profitable and social business opportunities, our graduates are equipped to apply their learning to the launch of new business venture ideas, apply their skill set to existing social enterprises, and effectively and efficiently measure triple bottom lines for any organization. Our 17-course program includes a one week orientation, two on-campus academic semesters (Fall and Winter), a four-month internship and a post-internship return to campus to summarize the learning outcomes of the internship and present a reflections paper. There are no course exemptions and no elective courses. Students are required to complete all 17 MBA-SEE courses.
