Occupational therapy is a health care profession that helps individuals to participate in the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities. Occupational therapy masters programs are available at schools accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE). While there are only about 200 accredited programs, there are almost 500 occupational therapy schools in the U.S., many of which offer a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy. Most graduates from these programs become occupational therapists after completing a one-year clinical residency program.
Occupational Therapy Masters Programs No Gre

Occupational therapy masters programs are available at both the graduate-level and post-graduate level (if you hold an undergraduate degree). These programs typically take two years to complete, but some schools offer accelerated programs that can be completed in one year or less. The curriculum includes coursework in both classroom and clinical settings along with supervised clinical experience.
Masters Degree Programs
The most common type of master’s degree is a Master of Science (MS) degree. A MS degree program generally requires 36 credit hours beyond your undergraduate education; however, some programs may require more or less than this depending on their specific focus. Additionally, some programs require students to submit an essay or thesis as part of their final project before receiving their degree.
Post-Graduate Certificate Programs
If you already have an undergraduate degree but want to gain specialized knowledge for entry into an occupational therapy career, consider enrolling in an occupational therapy post-graduate certificate program instead of pursuing
Occupational therapy masters programs are available at the master’s degree level only. There is no doctoral degree in occupational therapy.
Occupational Therapy Master’s Programs: Requirements, Curriculum and Careers
Occupational therapists help people with disabilities and disabilities resulting from injury or illness to achieve personal, social and vocational goals. They help patients develop skills that enable them to live as independently as possible. Occupational therapy courses involve patient interaction, group learning, community service and observation of patients in their homes and communities.
Some schools offer students the opportunity to work with a variety of populations such as children, adolescents, adults and older adults with various physical and cognitive needs. Others focus on particular populations such as geriatrics or pediatric neurology or on specific interventions such as sensory integration or orthotics/prosthetics (devices used to replace missing body parts).
Occupational therapists may be employed by hospitals, clinics or private practices; they may also work in public agencies such as schools, nursing homes or rehabilitation centers. Some OTs work at home with clients who have chronic illnesses or disabilities that do not permit them to leave their homes without caregiver assistance. Others may work for government agencies providing services to those with disabilities
